Relay

The Relay is released under GPL. It is AJAX enabled, also features improved UI and performance, which is ideal for large file sets. Files and directories uploaded into file stores from other means can also be easily handled.

phpXplorer

phpXplorer, as the name suggests is written in PHP. This is a free open source file management system. The file types, property sheets, views and themes are built on its own by modular design. The permission manager restricts the user access to multiple users in a detailed manner.

Key Feature: It has got dialogs for editing HTML, PHP, image, Apache, compressed and email files.

DesktopBrowser

This is a web application which uses SharpKit to maintain client-side code in C#. It is a simple free and open-source file browser project, maintained at Google Code. Local and network drives can be easily browsed. Requirements: NET 4 Framework, IIS Express.

Key Feature: Image view — with a preview of the first photo from each folder, sorting by any column(s), Next/previous sibling folder navigation.

OwnCloud

Getting your own data stored in an open source community had never been so easy and reliable using this file manager. By using this web based file manager you decide with whom to share which information and to what extent. The data can be accessed through web browsers, iOS, Android devices and your desktop and laptop. It supports MS Windows platform.

Seafile

It’s an advanced free to use open source cloud storage through which you can access and store your own data and share it with groups and teams as and when you desire. It is an advanced file management system and that converts information into a single file. Supported by Linux and Windows, you can access your data and share it with your team with just about any mobile or computer devices. You can copy, move, delete, remain and a host of other things with this advanced file manager.

Limpid Browser

It is an open source PHP and MySQL application though which you can store and share your information from just about any server and advanced mobile and computer devices. It is a web file sharing system that is run by the FTP server where you can perform a host of functions related to the file management system and share it with your team or community. It is an open source file management system that puts FTP file sharing right in your browser. It includes PHP and Ajax source code and is scripted for all types of programmers. Supported by Linux and Windows operating system, you can manage your important documents effectively, it also features multi-language support.

It is a web based file manager written in PHP though which you can upload and download your files, copy and rename it with ease. Works on UNIX operating system. It does not require MySQL, but you can implement one if you require. It carries the GPL license and comprises of an advanced file finder.

Kinky File Explorer

It is a totally free cold fusion based file exploration system that helps you to share your files and information through a read-only directory. It helps you to impart relevant information to your group or community without offering the right for snooping. It integrates an Ajax file loading system.

Limbo Media

A very impressive open source file management software that comes with a beautiful user interface and user management with access control. The tool provides easy ways to manage different file types including images, videos and documents.

Начало работы

File Commander не для любителей дизайна и красоты, это утилитарный продукт, который должен работать и выполнять поставленные задачи – управлять файлами. Именно поэтому разработчики не уделяли ни капли внимания внешности приложения.

На главном экране утилиты отображаются все имеющиеся на гаджете устройства хранения, типы файлов для быстрого поиска и все имеющиеся функции.

О функциях мы поговорим чуть позже, а пока давайте разберемся с памятью и файловыми операциями в данном приложении.

Начнем с того, что для каждого отдельного устройства хранения есть подробнейший анализатор. Он проверяет все файлы, строит круговую диаграмму «загруженности» диска, отображает то, какой файл сколько места занимает, и прочую подробную информацию. Полезная штука, особенно если вы не знаете, какие файлы занимают всю память на вашем android-устройстве.

Особое «спасибо» разработчикам за рекламу, здесь ее предостаточно. Да, я понимаю, что нужно как-то продвигать Premium-версию приложения, но не таким же образом. В бесплатной версии приложения итак имеется ряд прочих ограничений по функционалу.

Что касается работы с файлами, то приложение File Commander дает нам полный карт-бланш: копирование, перемещение, перименовывание, архивирование и так далее.

А при подключении к своему облачному хранилищу Google Диска, DropBox, Box, Amazon Cloud Drive или Microsoft OneDrive можно совершать все вышеуказанное еще и в облачных хранилищах.

Для удобства просмотра хранилища отображение файлов настраивается в самом подробнейшем виде.

My Commander is a free file manager with tabs and dual panes

We have reviewed a boatload of file managers here including Explorer Commander, muCommander, and File Commander . Here is one more which joins the list, My Commander.

You can probably guess what the inspiration was behind this file manager, Total Commander. The application’s name, the dual pane interface and the function bar on the bottom are a dead giveaway about what it’s based on.

My Commander is a portable application. The archive contains the executable for the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the program. The EXE is about 2.33MB and has a light memory footprint. MyCo (as it’s referred to by the developer), supports tabs like a web browser.

As a matter of fact, it does come with a built-in web browser. Click on the «tabs» menu (or right-click on a tab or use the hotkey Ctrl + Alt + B) to open a new browser tab. That’s really cool, but My Commander’s browser does not render pages correctly. Beside, I think it’s safe to say that most people would prefer using their favorite browser and extensions. Still, may be useful for opening local HTML pages.

Back to MyCo’s interface, you can open multiple tabs to browse different folders, this in addition to the second pane makes moving, copying and opening files much easier. There is a menu bar and a Toolbar at the top which is called Standard bar. It has monochrome icons which are minimal in design, they serve as shortcuts for various file operations. Then there is the drive bar, used for jumping to the different partitions and drives on your computer. The command bar at the bottom can be used to execute various commands.

The File menu contains some useful options such as a batch renaming utility, a tool for splitting files or merging them. You may create checksum files using various algorithms. The program lets you encode (encrypt) files by storing them in a different file using AES/RC4/DES/3DES 256, XXTEA, BASE64 modes.

My Commander also comes with a built-in file archiver tool that you can access from the «File > Compress or Decompress in Place» options. The official documentation says that MyCo supports ZIP, 7ZIP, TAR, CPIO, ZEN, ISO, LZ4, GZ, LZMA, XZ, BZ2, for both extraction and creation of archives. Perform basic file operations, copy the full path or selected filenames, preview and edit files from the Edit menu. You can change the sorting order, toggle the tree mode, switch to horizontal pane view from the Style menu. Optionally set My Commander to minimize to the tray, or stay on top of other programs from the same menu.

The Tabs menu does exactly what the right-click menu on the tab bar does (open new tab, close tab, close all tabs, duplicate tab or open browser tab). Access network drives, share folders, connect to your FTP folders from the Net menu.

The Programs menu has shortcuts for various Windows applications like Calculator, Notepad, Paint, Task Manager, Control Panel, Registry Editor, System Restore, On Screen Keyboard, Windows PowerShell, Command Prompt, and Administrative Tools (Task Scheduler, Services, Firewall, etc). You may use the System menu to lock the system, log off, restart or shut down the computer or put it to sleep or hibernate it.

Find files, monitor folders, compare the contents of two directories, synchronize two folders, view running processes from the Tools menu. It also has options to change the volume label, format the drive, run the Windows Disk Defragment tool and uninstall programs.

Just like Total Commander, My Commander does not have an instant right-click menu. You need to hold the right mouse button for a second to make it appear. The application has a built-in viewer that can be used to open images, text, and videos directly.

Use the F3 button to open files in the internal viewer. Double-clicking the files opens them in the default file handler (Notepad, Windows Photo Viewer, etc). If you want to edit text documents, use F4.

Note: The official website doesn’t mention this, but the program can be used to play music as well. But it only worked with MP3 files.

This review is based on the latest beta version, v5. It’s quite identical to v4, but v5 has better looking icons on the toolbar. There are some changes in the menu items as well.

My Commander is a polished file manager. It’s quite similar to File Commander, but with extra features and has the advantage of being portable.
